Pharoah Sanders with Phillis Hyman, Azar Lawrence, Catherine Russell, Don Aliquo and More on the Scene

From the pages of the Jazz Central Calendar - much in March to enjoy if you seek a breadth and depth of Jazz in Pittsburgh!

We feature sounds from just a sampling of performers playing Pittsburgh this month - including vocalist Catherine Russell (Greer Cabaret Theater, March 18), Azar Lawrence, George Cables and Billy Hart (Pharoah Sanders tribute from Kent Arts, March 23), Jazzmeia Horn (MCG Jazz, March 23), Marion Meadows (Pittsburgh Winery, March 17) and Don Aliquo, Sr (at VOMA March 16, 3rd Street Gallery March 17).

We also share some vintage recordings - Pharoah Sanders with Pittsburgh’s Phyllis Hyman from 1977 and the Jazz Crusader with the burning tune “The Young Rabbits” from 1962 (Reggie Watkins pays tribute to the Crusaders at Con Alma, March 15).

Jazz Marches on on the Scene - Thursday at 6 - Friday and Saturday at noon - Sunday at 5 on WZUM
