The Active Sounds of the Pittsburgh Jazz Scene

The Pittsburgh jazz scene this fall has been so very very busy and we're hustling to keep track of it all on the Jazz central calendar and will share some of that with you on this hour of the scene on the Pittsburgh Jazz channel, WZUM.

The sounds this week include Abdullah Ibrahim, performing Saturday night at MCG Jazz as part of season 38 - “A Season of Firsts.”

We share music from Pittsburgh native, trumpeter and crooner Benny Benack III joins vocalist Stella Cole, both performing on the 12th of November for “Some Enchanted Evening” at the Byham.

  • Antonio Hart comes to Alphabet City on the Northside to celebrate legendary alto sax great Johnny Hodges, Thursday, November 14th

  • The DIVA Jazz Orchestra at MCG Jazz, Saturday November 23

  • Don Aliquo Jr. and Sr -- at Con Alma and The Breezeway

  • Hugo Cruz - at Con Alma Saturday the 9th for the late set, Sunday at Kingfly Spirits, and Saturday the 30th for the Celebration of Gene Kelly and Billy Strayhorn at the Kelly Strayhorn in East Liberty

  • and Scott Hanley at Con Alma for the early set, Saturday November 9 with Max Leake - piano, Dwayne Dolphin - bass, and Thomas Wendt - drums.
