Sounds ahead - and remembering Lou, Roy and Quincy on the Scene

More great music coming to Pittsburgh in the days and weeks ahead -

On the radio show, we play sounds from some of those, and especially pay tribute to three legendary performers who passed in the last couple of weeks

  • Quincy Jones - 91 - who was involved with just about everyone in jazz and popular music for the past 70 years, including Dizzy Gillespie, Dinah Washington, Count Basie, George Benson, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra… and Pittsburgh native and Quincy Collaborator Sammy Nestico

  • Lou Donalson - age 98 - whose soul and bop alto sax combination was a joy to behold for many decades

  • Versatile drummer Roy Haynes, age 99. His long career included work with Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Stan Getz, Chick Corea, Gary Burton, Quincy Jones(!), Pat Metheny and hundreds more notable artists.

The Scene - Thursday at 6pm, Friday and Saturday at noon, Sunday afternoon at 5.
